Personal Portfolio Site Critiques

Jordan :

I really enjoy the idea of using scanned textures and patterns as the embellishments for your site. Very creative and unique. In some places, where the backgrounds tile out, I don’t think it works quite as nicely. I know that you said the site isn’t completed, but on the “writing” page, things aren’t laying out correctly. I’m not sure if that is just a result of it being incomplete or if it might be a browser problem. There is some overlapping of words and links happening on that page, that I don’t think was intentional. I really love the simplicity of your homepage, and that it is asymmetrical. On your about page, I think you could pull the body text up some, and make it a more central point on the page. As it is, it seems like I have to “hunt” for it. Overall, I really like where the site is going, and I look forward to seeing it completed.

I really like the industrial feel of your overall design, but I love that you kept it simple inside of that aesthetic. I know that the site is incomplete, but I am curious as to what the red graffiti arrows at the bottom are going to do, or where they are going to be. They are interesting, and I like them a lot, but I’m not sure how they tie in with the rest of the site. Everything seems very geometric, while that is very organic. I like the idea of the contrast, but having it be such a warm tone among so many other cool tones seems to be almost too much contrast. On your about page, I think you could include a similar green box around your photo and the body copy. There isn’t much to separate them from the background as it is. I love the simplicity of your contact page. I look forward to seeing it when it’s completed.
